Question: Why is SiO discontinuing the deposit scheme?
Answer: To ensure that our practice is in line with the regulations, we are now discontinuing the current arrangement while we await clarification from the Ministry. The introduction of advance rent will be made at a later date when it is technically and practically feasible.
Question: What do I need to do to get my deposit paid out?
Answer:You must complete two steps. First, you must goto My page and check and possibly update your bank account details. You must then confirm via this form that you have checked your bank details.
Question: Why do I have to confirm my bank account details on My page at sio.no/en?
Answer: You must do this because you may have changed your bank account since you first registered your bank account details onMy page, or you have not previously registered your bank account details on My page.
Question: When will I receive my deposit?
Answer: We will start the payments during November and aim to pay out all the deposits within 2022.
Question: I am an international student and have a foreign bank account. What do I have to do?
Answer:On My page, you can choose to check the box whether you have a bank accountin Norway, in Europe or outside of Europe. You then enter the correct information. Remember to confirm that you have checked and possibly updated your bank account information via this form.
Question: Is there a deadline by which I must do this?
Answer:The faster you check and update your details, the faster we also get your deposit paid out.
Question: SiO has communicated that advance rent will be introduced. When will this happen?
Answer: This will be introduced at a later date, and has not yet been determined. More information about this will be provided well in advance.
Question: What does SiO mean by advance rent being introduced? Aren't we paying rent in advance already?
Answer: We currently invoice the rent in advance, but you can move in before you pay the first rent. With a new arrangement, you will have to pay an amount as advance rent before moving in, and the amount will stand as security for rent throughout the tenancy.
The introduction of advance rent will be done at a later date when it is technically and practically feasible. Information will be available well in advance.
Question: Do I have to payrent in advance this year/now?
Answer: No, advance rent is something we plan to introduce in the future. It will take time before such an arrangement is in place, and we will inform you well in advance.
Question: CanI confirm thatmy bank account informationis correctby email?
Answer: No, you must use the form, so that the information is recorded in the correct place.
Question: Why do you want to demand rent in advance?
Answer:The background for advance rent is to providesecurity for thepaymentof rent. Exceptions have beenmade for student organizationsthrough a specialrule in § 11-2, seventhparagraphoftheregulationsonexemptions from the Rent Act, preciselywiththeaimof providing security for rent payment.

Question: Is advancerent in line with theRent Act?
Answer: Yes, when it comes to advance rent of pupil and student accommodation, a special rule applies in the Norwegian tenancy law article 11-2 seventh paragraph: "Without hindrance of article 3-2 first paragraph second sentence, advance payment for up to three months can be agreed". The provision gives student associations the right to agree on demands for advance payment for up to three months' rent.
