We are working hard to keep up our service offerings to Oslos students. SiO is looking at different measures, especially ones benefiting a large number of students.

Can I get the due date on my rent extended?

You must pay at least 500 kr. each time, and the whole amount must be paid in full before the due date of the next invoice

QUESTIONS ABOUT QUARANTINE AND HOME ISOLATION

I have confirmed corona, what should I do?
If you have been diagnosed with the coronavirus or are showing symptoms, you should be in home isolation. This means staying home. Do not go to the store yourself etc. In consultation with your doctor, it will be considered who can help you with the necessary purchases.

If you are in home quarantine or have been infected with corona and isolated, it is important that you notify us and those close to you about this.

Who needs to be quarantined?
The home quarantine is applicable to those who have no symptoms of the coronavirus, but who have had close contact with a person diagnosed with the coronavirus, or have been outside of Norway in the past 10 days. This applies regardless of whether you have symptoms or not. Watch for symptoms such as coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath or fever.

I've been quarantined and now I've gotten sick. Should I let you know?
We want to know if you get sick, even if you have been quarantined. Leave a note if you have been diagnosed with corona or not.

Do we get information if anyone in the building is quarantined or isolated?
Anyone who has been quarantined or isolated should notify us so that we can inform the other neighbours in the common kitchens.

I am showing symptoms of the coronavirus and want to go home to my mom and dad. What should I do?
If you have been diagnosed with corona or are showing symptoms, this means that you should be isolated in your home. This means that you cannot move out of your home (except for strictly necessary visits to the communal kitchen and bathroom, if you do not live in an apartment).

If you are only in quarantine you are free to go home, but it is important that you do not use public transport such as bus, train or plane to get home. Use your own car.

I'm in isolation, how should I get food?
If you are in isolation, you cannot go to the store to shop for food. That means you have to try to get someone else to help you with your purchases and put this outside your door.

I am in quarantine and have ordered delivery from Kolonial, can I open the corridor door so that Kolonial can deliver my food?
Yes, you can. Just make sure the door is not open too long and that it closes after Kolonial has delivered your food.

I have asthma and I am afraid to be put in quarantine.
If you have an underlying illness, such as asthma, we ask you to contact us if you are quarantined, so that we can help you as best we can.

We understand that this can be a daunting situation. SiO Health offers a video call if you want to talk to someone about it. Call SiO Health on 22 85 33 00 to schedule a video call.

QUESTIONS ABOUT CORONA AND SHARED COMMON AREAS

I have been diagnosed with corona and share a common kitchen with others, what should I do?
If you have been diagnosed with corona or you are showing symptoms, you should be in home isolation. That means that you have to stay in your room. You should limit visits to the common kitchen and shared bathroom to what is most needed. Be sure to have some food at your home and cook fast and simple meals, to limit your time and visits to the common kitchen. If you have to use the common kitchen exceptionally, use your own kitchen utensils, and be careful to clean surfaces and other places you are in contact with.

If you are in home quarantine or have been infected with corona and isolated, it is important that you notify us and those close to you about this.

I have confirmed corona, and share baths with others, what should I do?
Be careful and exact when cleaning, and clean surfaces such as bathroom sink, toilet, door handle and kitchen counter. You can use regular detergents for this. Good hand hygiene with frequent hand washing with soap and water is recommended, especially after toilet visits. Use your own towel for this.

Someone in my common kitchen has been diagnosed with the coronavirus, what should I do?

If you share common areas with someone who is infected with the coronavirus or are showing symptoms, you are considered a close contact and the home quarantine is recommended for 10 days after you last had contact with the person infected. Home quarantine means you can leave your student accommodation but avoid close contact with others. It means:

  • Do not go to work or school
  • Avoid travel and do not take public transport
  • avoid other places where you can easily get close to others
  • Do not go to the store or use the communal laundry

One in my common kitchen is in quarantine, what should I do?
Those who share a common kitchen and / or bathroom with someone in home quarantine can live as normal and go to school or work. However, watch out for fever and respiratory symptoms. People who are in home quarantine and have no symptoms of respiratory infections are considered to be at low risk of further spread of the infection. When sharing common kitchens and / or bathrooms with others, it is important to follow hand hygiene advice and other basic infection prevention measures. Good hand hygiene with frequent hand washing with soap and water is recommended, especially after toilet visits, before cooking and meals.

One I share a common kitchen with has been diagnosed with the coronavirus, and I want to move to another student residence.
If you wish to move to another student residence, send us an application for internal moving. Read more about internal moving here. However, we encourage you to stay put in your student residence and help keep the common kitchen clean by cleaning frequently. Clean surfaces such as door handles and kitchen counters. You can use regular detergents for this. Good hand hygiene with frequent hand washing with soap and water is recommended, especially before cooking and meals. Also remember to wash your hands if you are in contact with the person in home isolation, after you have been in the common kitchen and before leaving the student house.

One in my common kitchen has been traveling outside Norway and has been quarantined. Does that mean I also have to be in quarantine?
No, according to the Institute of Health's latest recommendations, you do not need quarantine in this case.

My entire common kitchen is under quarantine, how are we going to get food in the next 10 days?
We realize that it can be challenging. Maybe you can get help from someone else you know who is not quarantined to shop for you, or maybe ask on the student village' s Facebook page if anyone can help? In this situation, we must try to help each other as best we can. Eventually, stores that offer home delivery (such as Kolonial and Meny) may have better capacity - but you may want to be out early with your food orders.

Everyone in the common kitchen is in quarantine. How can we manage to keep the common kitchen clean when we do not get disinfectant?
The Norwegian Institute of Public Health writes that you can use ordinary cleaning agents for cleaning the kitchen, you do not need disinfectant. It is important that everyone helps to keep the common kitchen clean with frequent cleaning. Wash surfaces such as door handles and kitchen counters as well. Maybe you can agree to wash in turn, and not at the same time so you avoid too much close contact. Also remember the good hand hygiene advice with frequent hand washing with soap and water, especially before cooking and meals.

Someone I share the common kitchen with has overnight visits now, and that makes me unsafe. We are many enough as we are. What can you do about it?
We understand that it can make you feel insecure. Anyone staying with us can have an overnight stay for up to 14 days. However, in the serious situation we are in now, we urge you to think a little extra before inviting overnight visits.

QUESTIONS ABOUT INFECTION PREVENTION MEASURES

What is SiO doing to limit the spread of infection in student housing?
We ask anyone in home quarantine or home isolation to contact us. That way we will have an overview of all cases of corona infections in the student housing. To the extent possible, we will inform you if any of the persons you live with have been put in home quarantine or home isolation, so that you can take the recommended measures. We also maintain good cleaning practices, and encourage everyone to take responsibility for preventing infection by washing hands frequently and properly, before and after applying door handles, lift buttons, etc.

Why are there not Anti-bac racks at all front doors?
We are constantly assessing new measures, but unfortunately, there is an Anti-bac shortage currently, and difficult to obtain. We maintain good cleaning routines and encourage everyone to take responsibility for preventing infection by washing their hands frequently and well, before and after touching on door handles, elevator buttons, etc.

QUESTIONS ABOUT MOVING IN

I am moving into a student residence soon; will I be able to, and how do I get hold of the key when the customer centre is closed?
Yes, there is no indication now that you cannot move into your student residence. The process of moving into your student residence, will on the other hand, be slightly different. As the Blindern Customer Centre is currently closed to visitors, we will place keys in a key box in the student village you are moving to. You will receive a code to the key box by email, this way you will be able to receive the key to your home.

I am moving to another student housing in June, is it likely that the move will be postponed?
There is nothing to indicate now that the move will be postponed, but this can change as the situation around us changes. If there are any  changes, we will let you know in good time.

I am an international student moving into the student residence next week. Is there anything special I need to do as a result of the coronavirus?
Anyone coming from countries outside Norway, will be quarantined for 10 days upon arrival. You should not use public transportation to get from the airport to Oslo. The health authorities are currently monitoring people who land at the Oslo Airport from abroad. We have to get back to you with information on whether the quarantine can be held in the student accommodation you have rented.
