Advice on what you can do yourself

  • Wash your hands often and thouroughly, especially when you have been around other people. Alcohol based hand disinfectant is a good alternative when washing your hands is not possible, for instance while travelling.
  • Use disposable paper tissue if you cough or sneeze. Throw it away after it’s been used. Wash your hands. If you do not have a paper tissue available, use the crook of your elbow.
  • Keep at least one metre away from people with respiratory symptoms.
  • Avoid shaking hands and hugging each other

Infection and symptoms of the coronavirus
The illness infects the same way as the common cold or the flu, by viruses beeing transmitted from the respiratory system of an infected person. The symptoms are the same as for other respiratory diseases, such as coughing, fever, sore throat, chest pains and shortness of breath.

What should you do if you have any questions about, or suspect that you are infected by the new coronavirus?
If you feel sick, stay at home. If you have mild respiratory symptoms, you should stay at home for at least one day after you feel well. You do not need to contact your healthcare provider for testing.

If you have severe symptoms, you can call the Oslo corona line on 21 80 21 82, or the Oslo emergency room on 116 117. If you are not able to get in touch with the City of Oslo, you can call us for information (do not book a doctor appointment regarding the coronavirus online).

If you have a respiratory tract infection, a cold and/or have a fever, do not show up at our premises.

NB! Do not show up in person at the doctors office/the Emergency Medical Agency.
