The Foundation for Student Life in Oslo (SiO) is a student welfare organisation that provides a wide range of services to make the student life easier:
SiO provides services to approx. 37,000 students, at the following institutions of higher education:
- The University of Oslo
- The Oslo School of Architecture and Design
- The Norwegian School of Theology
- The Norwegian University of Physical Education and Sport
- The Norwegian School of Veterinary Medicine
- The Norwegian Academy of Music
- BI Norwegian School of Management
- The Oslo National Academy of the Arts
- The School of Acupuncture
Students at these educational institutions automatically benefit from SiO's student services after paying the semester fee of NOK 410.
Governance
The 8-member General Board (Hovedstyret) is the governing body of SiO. Four representatives are elected from the Student Parliament (the student government body for students at all institutions of higher education affiliated with SiO). Two representatives are elected by and among SiO's employees and two representatives are elected from the staff of the educational institutions. The chairperson must be a student, and students have the majority of votes. This way it is the students themselves that govern SiO, and among other things appoint the semester fee.
Funding
SiO's revenues result from: sales, student semester fees and membership fees, government grants and free use of premises at the educational institutions.
