About Amatøren

There is more to Amatøren than serving students coffee and beer and hosting concerts. It has three equipped music rehearsal rooms which are available to students. Ask in the bar if you are interested in booking a weekly rehearsal. Since Amatøren is run by students for students, the prizes are kept low. We welcome everyone, both students and non-students.

Amatøren needs volunteers, please contact the bar if you would like to help out.

History

Amatøren got its name from a novel by Lars Saabye Christensen. The novel is about a young man living at Sogn and who is an amateur at life. The premises were once a restaurant. In the 60s it was Oslo’s most important jazz club. Jan Garbarek and Karin Krog played here, at that time the tickets cost three kroner.
