What do I do when the alarm sounds?

Alert – rescue – extinguish

  • Alert. If you discover a fire or smoke, you need to alert the fire department immediately, tel 110.
  • Rescue. Alert the rest of the building and try to notify the other residents.
  • Extinguish. Close all doors and windows before evacuating the building. This prevents the fire to spread. For smaller cases of fire we ask you to attempt to extinguish with available fire extinguishing equipment.

Evacuating

Leave the building promptly. Find a suitable place away from the building to ensure that the fire department has free access. Wait for further assistance.

SiO Housing will shortly put up signs in all student villages, as well as send out information to all tenants about meeting points at evacuations. At the independent student houses the meeting point will be on the designated location. For instance close to the neighbor building.

Fire extinguishing equipment

Make yourself familiar with where fire extinguishing equipment are located. All buildings should have extinguishing equipment easily available. In most student villages and –houses this is powder extinguisher and fire hose.

Emergency exits
Make yourself familiar with escape routes and emergency exits. Escape routes and exits should always be free, in case of evacuation.
